The Camp
29 years ago, the Gaithersburg School of Basketball was created by Coach Paul Foringer and Coach Jeff Simms, to teach kids ages 7 through 15 the fundamentals of basketball. Since then it has been a staple in the Montgomery County community, with generations of campers coming back year after year, and even becoming counselors themselves! Our goal is to give our campers a space where they can not only grow as basketball payers, but as people.
Building Skills
The summer camp consists of boy's weeks and girl's weeks spread throughout the summer months. These programs are directed Coach Paul Foringer, who has over 40 years of coaching experience in Montgomery County. Other staff include former and present day high school and college players. Their first-hand experience and knowledge of the game will give each camper a terrific environment in which to improve their skills.
Building Character
Something that makes our camp different than other sports camps is our commitment to building strong character in our campers. The Six Pillars of Character are the core ethical values of CHARACTER COUNTS! These values were identified by a nonpartisan, nonsectarian (secular) group of youth development experts in 1992 as “core ethical values that transcend cultural, religious, and socioeconomic differences. The six pillars are; Trustworthiness; Respect; Responsibility; Fairness; Caring; and Citizenship. These pillars are incorporated into every part of our camp and we hope our campers learn the importance of being a team player on and off the court.
